Alvar Aalto's Aalto collection, consisting of vases of different sizes and models, won gold in the 1936 Karhula-Iittala design competition. The following year, the collection was presented at the World Exhibition in Paris. The new 250mm vase is based on these original sketches by Aalto from the 1930s, but has been updated in terms of size to suit today's needs.
Each vase is hand-made by mouth blowing into a wooden mold at the Iittala glass factory. The manufacturing method gives the vase its beautiful, vibrant and individual surface. Bright 1937 is one of the original colors of the Alvar Aalto collection. Due to the high iron content of the sand used in glass manufacturing in the 1930s, the clear glass typical of the time was light greenish. Closed and numbered set of 2023 pieces.
