Alvar Aalto combined a reduced form and the special skills of craftsmen when designing interior items that have become classics. Aalto's asymmetrical undulating shapes created for the Karhula-Iittala design competition became his signature in both architecture and glassware. Today, Aalto's objects that combine form and purpose have become a symbol of Nordic design and a masterpiece of glassblowers. Each Aalto bowl is made individually by mouth blowing. After that, it is cut from the glass mass by hand and ground into its final shape at the Iittala glass factory.
The versatile 262x50mm Aalto bowl is based on Aalto's original sketches from the 1930s, but its dimensions have been adapted to fit today's homes. The bowl is a beautiful decorative object, which is well suited for small servings, such as chocolate candies or for storing jewelry.
